'7 Stars' and 'Whole of Home' are now a reality effective from 1st May 2024.
But what does it really mean for you?
Residential
The biggest changes have occurred in the NCC2022 Volume 2.
7 Star NatHERS ratings are compulsory for all dwellings, this is approximately a 25% reduction in heating/cooling loads in comparison to current regulations.
7-star ratings conducted to date indicate compliance is mainly being achieved by lifting the glazing specifications.
Home designs between NCC2019 - NCC2022:
A single-glazed home at 6 Stars is double-glazed at 7 Stars.
A double-glazed home at 6 Stars is high performance/thermally broken at 7 Stars.
A high performance/thermally broken home at 6 Stars is non-compliant at 7 Stars. Design changes may be required to comply in these instances.
Whole of Home (WOH) assessments are compulsory for all dwellings.
WOH assessments conducted to date indicate a Solar PV array will be required for compliance with most dwellings.
Architectural documentation and consideration of base build appliances (hot water system, cooking equipment, and heating/cooling systems) will be required at the Building Permit.
Additions/Alterations have adopted a mix of the above requirements and its application is site-specific and depends on the scale of development.
Commercial
Mostly 'business as usual'.
A Solar PV array is required for roof areas, where applicable.
A minimum capacity for EV charging facilities is required at base build.
The scale and application of Solar PV and EV Charging vary based on the building classification.
